Time, Capitalism, and the Menstrual Cycle: What the temporal biology of the female body teaches us about health, wealth, and the value of taking time

Thursday, October 29th
1pm Eastern/10am Pacific

$40 USD

Capitalist, industrialised, productivity-focused economies organize and conceptualize time with the barest acknowledgment of natural cycles. Yet cycles underpin all life on our planet. While thought outliers have been raising the issue of cyclicity for many years, it is only recently that we have begun to see serious academic work and the mainstream press address ways in which the absence of cyclical awareness not only impoverishes physical and mental health, but also contributes to the climate crisis and wealth inequalities. In this talk, Lara brings together these themes in the context of the fertility/menstrual cycle to detail how women's biology is both a testament to the damaging effects of short-term thinking and undervaluing cycles, and at the same time, a beacon of inspiration for how life might be more holistically and sensitively organized for the long-term future of the planet.

Dr. Lara Owen is internationally recognised for her pioneering work on menstruation and the menstrual cycle.
